Pre-Arrival & Visa Planning
- Short Visits (Check-ups/Consultation): No. Most international patients enter on a standard Social Visit Pass (Tourist Visa).
- Long-Term Treatment (>30 Days): If you require intensive treatment (e.g., Spine Surgery, Oncology), we can assist you in applying for a Medical e-Visa through the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC).
Please be advised that visa extension approval is contingent upon the patient’s medical condition and a formal recommendation from the attending doctor confirming the necessity of an extended stay for treatment.
- Yes. You can request the MHTC Meet & Greet Service at Penang International Airport.
- How to book: Contact our International Patient Services (IPS) at least 3 days before arrival.
- Note: This service is highly recommended as immigration queues can be long during peak seasons.

Arrival in Penang (Airport Logistics)
- Distance: ~18 km (Located in Georgetown city centre).
- Travel Time: 30–45 minutes by car (Traffic can be heavy on Macalister Road during rush hour 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM).
- Important: Grab drivers cannot pick you up at the main arrival curbside.
- Directions:
- Exit Door 1 at the Arrival Hall.
- Cross the road to the Multilevel Car Park.
- Go to the Ground Floor.
- Wait at the designated "E-Hailing Pickup Point".
- Yes, we offer complimentary airport pickup for pre-registered international patients.
- Booking: You must book this at least 1 working days in advance by registering using link below. (Operating Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30am-5pm; Sat 8:30am-1pm).

- Walk-ins: We strongly advise patients to check with us prior to departure to avoid any inconvenience.
- Please fast (no food, only plain water) for 8–10 hours before your appointment.
- Location: Health Screening Centre, Level 2 (Peel Wing).
- Results: Most comprehensive reports are reviewed by the doctor in the afternoon (around 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM) if you screen in the morning.
Insurance, Payment & Costs
- Yes. We accept Guarantee Letters (GL) from major insurers (AIA, Allianz, Prudential, Manulife, AXA , Sequislife, Generali, Great Eastern, etc.).
- Procedure: Please submit your insurance card or relevant details to our Admission Counter after consulting the specialist and confirming your decision to be admitted.
- Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) only.
- Currency Exchange: Island Hospital has a licensed currency exchange counter located at Peel Wing, Level 1.
- Single Room: ~RM400 per night.
- 2-Bedded Room: ~RM250 per night.
- 4-Bedded (General) Ward: ~RM150 per night.
- Note:
- Room rates are estimates only.
- Room rates exclude nursing fees, meals, and doctor visits.
Admission: Admission Counter staff will provide the necessary guidance during the admission process.
Inpatient Stay & Comfort
- Single Rooms: Yes. One lodger is allowed (lodger fee applies).
- Shared Rooms: Generally no, to ensure rest for other patients.
Yes. All patient meals are Halal Certified. We also provide Vegetarian and Therapeutic diets (low salt/sugar).
- General Wards: 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM & 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
- ICU / CCU: Strictly limited to immediate family (1 visitor max), usually shorter hours.
